Órla is an interior designer, stylist and academic based in Dublin, Ireland. Her teaching background is founded on several years’ experience in universities in Toronto and Dublin. Her specialist areas of design are interior design, retail design, visual merchandising, and sustainable design.
Órla is continuously searching for new and innovative ways of engaging and assessing learners, and has edited and co-authored a number of articles on interior design and design education. Her latest research investigates the use of reflective blogs and the integration of ePortfolios in the design curriculum, to both enhance learning and mimic team collaboration that takes place in the design industry.
Órla places great importance on her professional practice, having worked as an interior designer and sustainability consultant on both residential and commercial projects, and spent six years as a Senior Designer with Arnotts of Dublin. She continues to incorporate sustainable strategies in her retail design practice, in particular in regards to energy efficiency, one of the biggest environmental challenges of the retail sector.
Órla currently works as a freelance designer and stylist, and lectures with the Design Faculty at the Dublin Institute of Technology School of the Creative Arts, where she is a PhD Candidate. Orla is also a visiting lecturer with various design education institutions in Toronto, Canada.
